Your Veteran is a hero. Now it’s your turn.

The Rocky Mountain MIRECC, in partnership with Kognito bring families, friends, co-workers and Veterans (really anyone who talks with Veterans) an interactive video game designed to help build skills supporting the Veteran through post-deployment stress. Family of Heroes puts participants in a fun (and free) virtual environment where they can “talk” and respond to common challenges. A virtual coach offers tips along the way.

The screen shot above is mother talking about how Family of Heroes helped her learn to communicate better with her son, a Veteran. You can see this short video of family and friends talking about the program and how it helped them and the Veteran they know and care about.

Just one hour of playing time helps players practice:

  • What to say and how to say it—finding the right words
  • How to identify post-deployment stress, like depression or PTSD
  • How to encourage Veterans to get professional help, if needed

By helping prepare families, friends, co-workers and Veterans for what to expect when the Veteran returns home, this award-winning program can help build resilience to keep everyone strong during a stressful time.

There are Two Ways to Help:

1. If you are a Veteran/Military personnel/family or friend please visit the Family of Heroes Website now!

2. Help spread the word about our Family of Heroes campaign, please visit our Family of Heroes - Getting the Message to Veterans’ page. Here you’ll find the tools to quickly and easily help spread the word (including sample emails, tweets, Facebook posts, postcards, banners, buttons and cards).

The Rocky Mountain MIRECC Family of Heroes program was created especially for families living in a four-state region (CO, UT, MT and WY) but is open to all Veterans/military personnel and their families and friends. Please Be a Hero to Yours Today!
