Austin, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/03/2013 -- Last year 18 veterans took their own lives a day. This year 22 veterans and 1 active duty soldier took their lives a day. Andrew O'Brien was almost one of those numbers.

Andrew attempted suicide in November of 2010, a year after returning from Iraq, while he was still in the active duty Army. He took a large amount of pills and the hospital was unable to wake him up, they were forced to shove a tube down his throat and pump his stomach full of coal. He was lucky enough to wake up the next morning, but 22 vets and 1 soldier a day aren't getting to wake up!

Now, Andrew has written a guide titled "Welcoming Your Soldier Home" where he speaks about his suicide attempt and helps families understand the mind of a veteran. He also supports veterans and soldiers by letting them know they're not alone in their mind. His goal is to get started this year and take 12 months of traveling to cities and making a documentary out of what he is doing.

Reaching this $25,000 goal will jump-start Andrew's traveling, and speaking with families and filming veterans all over the country. Depending on where he goes, each trip will be from $1,000 to $2,000, so reaching his $25,000 goal can take Andrew and his small film crew to about 16 places. The more they raise, the more Veterans they can reach and save.

Andrew and his film crew will be making a documentary during his year tour of not only his speeches but also one on one interviews with family members of veterans and veterans themselves giving advice and telling stories. Once the documentary is complete he will be donating the DVD to families of soldiers returning from war.
